How To Recognize a Threat :

1) Do some research

You can search the web to find opinions, ratings and votes regarding the site you are interested. You can also check the specific sites' forums and look for complaints, proofs of payment, payment delays, background of the owner(s) etc.

2) Don't invest too soon

Take some time to evaluate the site and learn its mechanics. Making hasty decisions, without having the outputs and sustainability of a site tested, is generally not a good idea.

3) Free Domain

Check the sites' domain name. If it is a free domain name and looks like this (http://www.free-domain.domain.com/), it means that its owner doesn't even have enough cash to sustain a normal domain (which costs $10 per year). How is he going to pay the members?

4) Terms of Service (TOS)

Check the ToS of the site for incomplete statements or missing parameters regarding its functions (costs, payments, restrictions, referrals etc).

5) Years of Activity

In general, the most reliable PTC sites are the ones having good sustainability. In other words : the older = the better. However, this doesn't mean that a newly created PTC site isn't legit. It simply means that it isn't tested enough.

6) Unproffesional Design

Poor design, bugs, errors, consistent login problems etc. All are signs that something isn't right.

7) Rented & Bux Sites

There are scripts on sale for creating and maintaining a PTC site. We don't have to explain what happens when they fall
in the wrong hands.

8) Unreal Earning Possibilities

Don't ever trust a PTC site owner claiming to be able to pay you higher than $0.02 per click.

9) Abandon Ship

The owner of the PTC site disappears with no trace, and so do the members investments. To avoid falling a victim, visit the forum of the site regularly and check for the owners' presence and contribution. (This is the worst case scenario and applies mostly in low trust PTC sites).
